Cleaning Your Ducts Can Be Easy
The air ducts in your house carry the air from your furnace or air conditioner through your house, and if you have an air intake inside your house, the ducts will make sure that the air gets back to the furnace or AC unit. If those ducts get dirty, they aren't going to just blow the air around, they are also going to blow around dust, pet hair, and anything else that ends up in there. One way that you can help to stop that problem is to clean out your air ducts. If you don't think it's something you can do on your own or you just don't want to do it, you can always contact a professional to do it for you.
Gather Your Instruments of Cleaning
Before you get started, you want to make sure that you have all the tools available to hand. That includes a screwdriver to take the grate off the duct, you may also want to get a small dish to put the screws in so that you don't lose them. You are also going to want to get a nice stiff brush, some clean rags, and a vacuum cleaner with a hose. That way you can suck up the dust and contaminants. You may also want to get something that you can attach the rags to and a rubber band in order to secure the cloths to the item.
Start Cleaning
Before you start cleaning, make sure that you have turned off the furnace or air conditioner. That way loose dust and such isn't getting blown around while you are working. Then, take off the grate and use the stiff brush to knock loose all the dust, lint, or whatever else may have built up in the ducts. Then you are going to want to use your clean rags in order to get as much of that dust and debris as possible. If you have a vacuum cleaner with a hose, this would be the time to use it. Stick the hose down into the duct and turn it on and suck everything up.
If you are worried about all the stuff that may be living in your air ducts, you can clean them up and keep contaminants out of your house. It can be pretty easy for you to clean the ducts up, but you may want to hire an air duct cleaning professional since they will be able to get further into the duct than you can.
